When Words Fail, Actions Don’t

You’ve probably heard this phrase before – “Actions Speak Louder Than Words”.  It is an old-age proverb that carries value, wisdom, and teaching towards maturity. Many times we have heard this phrase but very few of us actually grasp the value and wisdom behind it.  Jack Ma himself, in one of his amazing quotes, tells us what kind of impact our actions will create compared to mere words. In this blog, we will look at how more powerful our actions are and how it builds the one value that is needed in all aspects – TRUST.

The Sad Truth: Words Fail

The truth of the matter when it comes to our interaction with the people around us is that it’s a lot easier to say the things we plan than actually put it into action. The same goes for making promises. Most people fail to fulfill what they promised, hence ruining the trust of those they have promised to. This kind of situation does happen. You and I are not guilty of this. At one point we all have made promises or said some things that we fell short to fulfill. But on the other side of the coin, even if our words fail, our actions will always speak loudly about our true intentions.

The Impact of Our Actions

Whether we like it or not, we are all held accountable for the words we spoke and the actions we did. The trust of other people towards us depends on the actions we showed them.

Take marketing and sales as an example. You are trying to sell someone your product or services and you are a new company that is trying to build your clientele. Because you are new and people have not heard from you, they will always have second thoughts about you, your product, and your services. If you are a salesperson, you would explain everything to the prospect personally or over the phone (which is more difficult to do). If you were able to close the deal through word of mouth, that’s good. But true closing is actually when you are able to prove to your client that you are actually doing business with them, giving them excellent results, and thus, establishing that trust. Failure to do so would only ruin your client’s trust, making them not to do business with you anymore.

Other Examples

The same goes for other examples such as family, friends, relationships, etc. When our words don’t line-up with the actions we show and vice versa, trust is ruined. It doesn’t matter what you have said. What really matters is what you do with the words you say because that will create a huge impact on your world.

Multi-millionaire, Jack Ma, always believed that it is our actions that will never be forgotten. It is our actions that will be remembered rather than the words we speak. Once trust is built, our words will not matter anymore but rather, our actions will speak for ourselves, making us trustworthy in front of people.

The Lesson

Make this a lesson to learn – words fail when our actions speak otherwise. It is our actions that will speak for us. Only then will we be able to create a positive impact on our world, making our actions unforgettable. Your words will be forgotten but your actions will always be remembered.

The world will not remember what you say,
but it will certainly not forget what you have done.
